A year ago, I was that person: living for the weekends, I’d hit my limit and kept going, the life of the party, the “let’s do shots” girl. So what happened? “Why did you stop drinking?” Simple answer: alcohol stopped serving me in a positive way. Long answer: One night of drinking would turn into crippling anxiety and depression––no sleep, fueling my body with drugs, alcohol, and unhealthy (if any) food. Why was the thing that was supposed to be fun and exciting making my life so miserable? I talked a lot to my friends about wanting to quit booze but never pulled the trigger past a 30-day sober month. Then one day, I just knew it had to change, so I did. Fast forward 341 days and I sit here to shed some light on a booze-free life in a world where social activities are surrounded around alcohol.
This decision is easier for some than it is for others and the journey is just that, a journey. That said, we live in 2022 where non/low-alcoholic beverages are at our fingertips, which can help that transition into a sober life easier and that’s why I’m here.
